Email marketing isn’t about purchase this and that from me — it’s about writing to real people, cultivating real relationships and providing incredible services to them. I invite you to offer authenticity, personality, humor and valuable information, so your subscribers become eager to read your information and purchase products the want from you.
To help you, I want to share the most common mistakes entrepreneurs make.
Drum-roll please…
Email Marketing Mistake 1: So-so subject lines
Studies have shown that people choose to open your email based on… #1 The From Line and #2 The Subject Line. Since we can’t change the From Line, let’s talk about the subject lin.
The purpose of the subject line is to get your subscribers to open your email. The best advice I’ve ever received on this topic is for the subject line to make the reader “curious”.
For example: “Jen, did you hear about this?” or “Jack, you won’t believe your eyes!”
Do you see how these subject lines make the reader curious?
One last tip: Keep them short anywhere between 45 and 55 characters is perfect.
Email Marketing Mistake #2: Mundane Messages
The truth is people don’t really care how wonderful and great you are. They care about themselves. They care about what they need.
Again the trick here is to make the reader curious to learn and read more. Get them excited about the subject and show them how it can help them.
Email Marketing Mistake #3: Bring up the Buy
When you want your subscribers to buy something from you, consider making them so curious, they can’t help but want to click to your sales letter. Stick with telling a compelling story that allows your subscriber to become excited and curious about what they could receive.
Think about stories that start with … last week, yesterday, earlier this morning.
Email Marketing Mistake #4: Lacking Love
Whether you are sending information to small business owners or corporate offices, it is so important to “be” in your writing. Really connect with your message and your words to express the purpose and meaning beyond the words.
Email Marketing Mistake #5: Gunning Gratitude
Whether it’s emotionally or you are outright saying thank-you. If you give what you can, you will receive gratitude and gifts in return.
A Simple Way of Being: We are all real people; LOVE your neighbor as you do yourself.

Last week, one of my clients called me “Focahontas”, because our work together has provided him clarity and focus to his vision. However, what I find that I really do is provide simple ways for us to focus and operate in business (and life).
Today’s article is one of my simple way methods that you can use to leverage your time with more effective ways to communicate with your clients.
How are YOU communicating effectively? Not just in your marketing, branding and documentation, but in all ways that you use your words and the energy behind your words.
I tell my two year old all the time to “use her words”. I’ll tell you the same.
As I see it, there are five levels of communication to create greater wealth in your business and life.
Level 1: Mental Chatter: When we speak negatively to ourselves or when we are randomly fretting about the future or the past. This is the worst kind of communication. The energy of the words causes negative creation. You are creating things that you don’t want and desire. You are also effecting others by not being present for them.
Level 2: Exchanging words: When we exchange words we are speaking and sharing nonsense. Some people call it “complaining”, “chit chatting” others may call it “gossiping”. Whatever form it comes in for example in person, email or phone you will know it when you feel drained of energy.
Level 3: Value-add: When we speak to add value we are connecting with others. These people are great as team players.
Level 4: Motivate: When we speak to motivate others, we become proactive with our lives and clear on how to lead others with our words.
Level 5: Inspire: When we speak to inspire others, we become driven by the heart and passionate about help others grow. The words in this article are designed to inspire change from within you.
How are YOU communicating effectively?
HOMEWORK:
As a success mentor, I want to leave you with a few thoughts.
1. How can you improve your level of communication?
2. How can you become more aware of your level of communication?
This is your life. How can you love the life you lead – every moment of every day?

That’s it!
Have a wildly fun day,
Jen Blackert (aka Attraction Diva)
Attraction Diva (Author & Speaker)
After a few weeks off, I started my new job as a Program Director of Software Development at a large corporation. It sounds pretty impressive, doesn’t it? Well, I thought it was at the time. I made $45/hour and that was “huge” for me back then. I loved the idea of looking at the clock 8 hours a day and thinking… boom… I just made another 45 bucks. SWEET!
If that’s not feeding the ego – I don’t know what it is.
Let me clarify what I mean here… Don’t get me wrong… I think it is so, so important for us to create as much money as we desire for our purpose to serve. The purpose for wealth and money creation is so we can live the life we want to lead and inspire others to do so – it’s not to be used as an emotional ego booster that say – woo hoo – I’m brilliant – check me out!
If the wealth you is about recognition, personal fulfillment and freedom will not be available to you. It’s only purpose is to provide resource for a purposeful life. This took me some time to understand this. It took me at least another 7 years and some days I still feel I am working to fully embrace it.
I did learn a few new strategies by holding this position and believe that it was a part of my divine path. I learned:
1. I didn’t want to do this for long.
2. I like making this income for my lifestyle.
3. I learned about larger project management and organizational behaviors.
4. I learned how to manage a larger team.
5. I began to understand decision making processes in larger businesses and companies – much different than mom and pop shops!
So, yes, life and business lessons learned. Career fulfillment received – well – not so much. Purpose fulfillment received – not at all. Ego fulfillment – absolutely!
In 9 months, I took the division of this company from chaos to calm and literally work myself out of a job. Exactly what I wanted, but feared. Stay tuned.
Is passion *really* your compass?
I was taking a yoga class yesterday and
the teacher was sharing before class
began that he didn’t really like teaching
yoga.
He continued and said, “I love yoga, but
I don’t love teaching it.”
I asked the most obvious question,“Well,
why are you teaching yoga?”
He hesitates and doesn’t say a word.
And then he says, “I don’t know.”
I, then, tell him I am a law of attraction
business coach. I explain that I teach
people how to align their desires,
thoughts, feelings and beliefs with
what they desire.
He then said, “I need to stop teaching.”
I couldn’t believe it. Here’s someone
that practices being awake and aware.
I was somewhat dumbfounded. Why
was he doing something that he didn’t
enjoy? And then I thought about all the
years I spent in corporate that I didn’t
enjoy.
So then out comes my coaching persona
and I say, “There isn’t anything that you
can’t attract, what would you love to be
doing?”
Whether you want more money, to lose
weight, to rid yourself of a disease, to
attract more business, to find that loved
one. It doesn’t matter!
The key is to look at life with a beginner’s
mind – like you just woke up and began to
explore your new life in the here and now.
If anything we need to unlearn our limits
and negativity. The time is N-O-W. Life
starts N-O-W.
My CoffeeShopreneur Program for entrepreneurs
does just that. It explores your desire and unlocks
ways (i.e. internet marketing, branding etc.) for
you to express your success.
In would like you to join me this Tuesday as I
open the call for a complete question and answer
session with me on the best spiritual and business
growth practices.
You can sign up for the single class or for the monthly
program at:

How does journaling change your life?
Like I said in the previous post, I was in a dead-end job. I started seeking knowledge and instead, I sat around seeking a paycheck. So while I was waiting for a paycheck day in day out — I practiced yoga. And yoga brought me to the awareness that I was fighting myself. The questions are …
Who are you fighting? Why are you fighting?
So I started to answer these questions in my journal. Some of the exact questions I asked myself are ask in my book, Seven Dragons: A guide to a limitless mind (on Amazon).
They went something like this? Who am I fighting? What is the fight all about? Why am I scared to be in my body and experience the moment? Is it because the moment isn’t that delicious? Or is it because I never experience the moment before? Have I always been waiting for a better future? What am I waiting for exactly?
In answering these questions, I realized I was hiding from something, but I didn’t know what I was hiding from. I also realized I had a desire for freedom, but couldn’t tell you how I would even know when I would experience that freedom.
So the journal continued… What am I hiding from? Am I hiding from myself? What does that mean? How would I experience freedom? What does that mean?
The answers started to come very slowly. The first thing I did know was that I had to find another job. The idea of becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t even in my scope of awareness at that time. I knew I wanted to make more money and I knew I wanted a greater challenge. Once these simple ideas were available I received an unexpected call from a recuiter that I worked with over 5 years earlier.
He said I would be perfect for this other job and as he described it, it seemed like a dream come true. The position was to be a program director for a large technology firm. The salary was about a 1/3 more making $50 an hour. At the time, that seemed to be an incredible amount.
After nearly 2 months of interviews I finally left my dead end position and started with this new firm. I was thrilled and I thought it was exactly what I wanted. More recognition, more responsibility, more challenge and more money.
ALL THE THINGS THAT WOULD HELP MY EGO GROW.
The dream of this new position was short lived.
To be continued….
So how did yoga get me unstuck for my seemingly little-work-and-a-good-amount-of-money- dead-end-job.
How does yoga transform?
For me it was an everyday two year practice. I started in a fitness gym and ended up at one of the top studios in the downtown area.
It started one day when I just had to get out of the office. Since we had a full kitchen in the office, it didn’t make a lot of sense to go out to lunch so I thought I would find a lunch time aerobic class. The gym was 2 miles away. I jumped in the car and raced to the gym’s front desk to find that only yoga was taught during the lunch time hour.
So, I tried it. I left feeling better and rejuvenated and so I kept doing it.
I always worked to get the most out of my workout. When the time for final rest came, I would try to sneak out and act like I had to get back to work. I thought it was such a waste of time to just lay there for 5 minutes.
Nearly three months in, I had a teacher request that I take a final rest five minutes before I HAD to leave. She said she would tell me when I could rest. That day I waited until the end of class and took the final rest with everyone else. I remember my head thinking about what else I had to do at work and then she told us to stop thinking about the clock or what we were going to do after class. My eyes opened and I thought … how did she know?
After class I left and pondered the idea of thought. Why was I thinking about the future, when I could have just been enjoying the moment of feeling good after yoga? The awakening became a whole new goal for me. I began to like final rest and I enjoyed seeing where my mind would go.
One teacher once told me the mind was like a wild mustang and you needed to remind it to behave. And so I did. I used that time in yoga to notice my thoughts and remind them to go away.
I learned that when I thought less, I would FEEL more and this opened up a whole new can of worms! I found myself not wanting to FEEL. I felt depressed on a regular basis.
I fought myself! I was fighting with myself. So I began to ponder once again. Why? Who was I fighting with? Me or myself? I later learned this wasn’t a new concept but it was new to me. Hence another discovery of myself through yoga.
I became fascinated with the inner fight. The study of my dueling mind and others would later be a part of my Seven Dragons book.
I know your asking… well what does that have to do with getting unstuck? Well, I tell you.
When you are depressed and you realize that you can be less depressed when you avoid yourself, you begin to ask yourself a slue questions.
For me it started with. What am I really feeling? Why do I feel depressed? I mean my outward world looks great from the view of others, so why am I not happy?
And then I began to journal …
Ok. So it’s been a week. A fantastic week! I thought I would continue with my sticky area.
Like I said — I know from me and my clients the restlessness is good because often time you will seize the moment and grow.
So this is what happened. I jumped from small time ad designer to marketing assistant at another job to marketing database administrator to web designer (with graphics) to a jsp/asp web developer. Ah and yes I ended up as a asp web designer in the heart of the dot com era. In 1998, I was receiving praise for what these days you might receive 30k a year for. In 1998, I was making 60k for a dot com-mer. It was fantastic until our funding ran out in 1999 and yes I was laid off.
Being laid off was no biggie for me. I had some money in the bank and I knew I could find job in record time. And I did. This again my natural attraction energy. If you think you can you can — If you think you can’t you can’t. You CREATE it!
In about 6 weeks I had my next new gig making more money and having less work to do. And this is where I got stuck. I was doing web development for a little mom and pop shop. I was in the office about 35 hours and worked about 10 of that. I stopped growing and started playing. I used to open iMesh.com and download new release movies from the internet and watch them on the computer. Shhhh… don’t tell the film industry. They had a full kitchen with great organic food. It was a great gig for a 28 year old.
So basically. I went from making $10/hour to $70K in about 6 years — plus I was doing very little to receive the money.
What more could you want? Right? NOT! So I was somewhat happy in a crazy way. I stopped growing as a web developer. I was there from 3 years too long.
The good news was … since I wasn’t working long and hard hours I took a 2 hour lunch break every day and started to practice yoga. Everyday I went to the studio and rolled out the mat. I first took yoga just for the physical benefits and then I started to receive the universal messages — and it’s a good thing or I might still be in the job.
I’ll share how I got out and *started* to unlock my mind and a world of wealth next week
